Everyone gets up in arms over child brides. No one gives a damn about adult brides. Our society is ageist. Society doesn’t care about adults getting married because they’re “privileged.” But not those poor children. They’re oppressed. In elections, children count as zero-fifths of a person, so if they get married, it’s always an adult’s fault somehow. We infantilize children. We should acknowledge marriage is wrong no matter who it happens to. Instead, we sweep adults under the rug and saddle them with children’s welfare. Apparently, adults can’t possibly understand what it’s like to be a child.
