I don't particularly like the idea of Trump declaring a national emergency to get a wall built. I don't see a reason to circumvent the normal legislative process. The biggest reason I oppose it though is I do not like the idea setting a precedent that the way to accomplish something you can not through legislative means is to declare an emergency. What if the next president uses it as a means of gun control, speech control? But still, what about this tweet by Mike Levin, congressman from Cali: If @realDonaldTrump declares a “national emergency” to pay for his border wall, we’ll fight him in Congress, in the courts, and in the streets. What exactly does he mean 'and in the streets'? Mr. Levin do you mean like with guns and stuff? A civil war kind of thing?
