I don't tend to prefer the dreadnought shape aesthetically, much preferring the basic Martin OM shape or the jumbo version. Maybe it's the "shape of a woman" thing; or maybe it's the fact that my first acoustic guitar, with which I had many struggles over the years, was a dreadnought. But sonically as well, they're supposed to be louder but I haven't noticed that particularly. My little 00 with the cedar top and the deep cavity is certainly louder than any dreadnought I know, if I want it to be. And anyway, you're always mic'd anyhow at shows. All that said, my bandmate Bobby's mid-70s Guild is really, really nice. Kind of a "buttery" sound. It's the old wood, isn't it? #music #guitar #minds
