I don’t want to end gun violence, I want to end all violence. Violence doesn’t stop because you take away the means but because you eliminate the motivation for violence. People who commit violence do so for endless reasons... - Those who engage in violence to engage in theft or the black market transactions do it often cause other opportunities were out of their reach. We can make opportunity accessible by reducing the burdens of taxation, regulation and licensing on the cost of opportunity. - Those who who are violent towards friends and family often do so out of insecurity, frustration and anger towards themselves which then turns into destructive behavior toward those they care about cause they’re the most likely to tolerate it. If opportunity were accessible and people felt comfortable seeking what makes them happy they may not be as insecure or frustrated. If we voluntary provided refuge for those who are victims of that violence they may not tolerate it for as long as they do. - Those who commit violence due to mental illness need us to be willing to talk about mental illness and create voluntary efforts to take care of people who suffer from it. Some mental illness you can’t avoid, it may be a condition you are burdened with and for those we should strive to provide voluntary assistance to manage it. Others develop mental illness from the circumstances in their life. A better economic environment may not fix all circumstances but it may make a difference to many and save a life. Being more tolerant of how people seek happiness as long as they don’t hurt others can also create better circumstances to prevent the trauma that leads one to engage in violence towards others. I want to end violence and that doesn’t require controlling others more but empowering them with opportunity and loving them for who they are. Let’s love and empower in this darkest hour.
