One of those "memories" this is an enormous fantasy sword I acquired long ago from a neighbor in my building who was having a rent fundraising sidewalk sale. As there were clear indications that she was rather crazy and could possibly pose a danger to herself and others, I felt it best and safest to buy it for $20, thus disarming her. It came in handy a few years later when I heard some weird sounds at the back door at around 4 AM, which sounds turned out to be a guy with a crowbar prying the door open. I grabbed the sword and charged, in my underwear and Queers shirt, yelling something or other. He dropped the crowbar and ran. First and only time I ever actually defended hearth and home with a sword. I credit the vital element of surprise rather than the sword per se but I'm sure the sword helped. Subsequently I used the photo for the author pic for Andromeda Klein promotion, again because sword. Moral: a good sword never goes astray, and even a bad one (which this assuredly is) can come in handy if wielded with the proper attitude.
