Photo by stevewinterphoto / A mother leopard will move young two- to three-month-old cubs like this one to new dens every few days. These dens, almost like a crèche, are where the young cubs can play, hide, and sleep while mom is out marking territory and hunting. But at night when mom moves, the cubs will follow, often for kilometers at a time! Leopards are the world’s most widespread big cat, extending from as far west as Gabon, across the Middle East, and south into the island of Java! The leopard is also the world’s most persecuted big cat. For years leopards have flown under the conservation radar, but recent research shows they may have lost as much as 63-75% of their historical distribution. Photo and video by Stephen Alvarez salvarezphoto / The Rochester Rock Art Panel has stood the test of time. It's a fantastic and complex piece of artwork in Emery County, Utah. The panel faces the rising sun and watching the dawn light stream down its face is a moving experience. These images have stood here for at least two thousand years. Rock art like this inspired me to start the ancientartarchive to preserve and share humanity's oldest stories.
