NORTHERN PYGMY OWL

The Owl Research Institute says this diminutive predator, also known as a California or Mountain Pygmy Owl, tips the scales between 2.2 and 2.5 ounces. They grow to about 6 to 7 inches, but that doesn't stop them from taking down medium-sized birds and small mammals like any other birds of prey.
