The Trifid Nebula

Approximately 5000 light-years distant from the earth, located in the constellation of Sagittarius, is a star-forming region in the Scutum spiral arm of the Milky Way; The Trifid Nebula. The single massive star in the open star cluster, visible near the center of the image, has a mass more than 20 times the mass of our sun, and is responsible for most of the light in the Trifid. The nebula itself spans about 10 light-years in breadth, and is one of the youngest emission nebula known. .................................................................................... #space #science #astronomy #nature #education
