Thoughts on Forgiveness

Can we forgive those who don't want forgiveness, or refuse to acknowledge the hurts they have committed, or continue to willfully cause harm? God forgives those who see themselves and the harm they have caused and are willing to turn and take a different path and become a renewed person. We are not better than God. We can overlook grievances, put our hurts and frustration 'on the shelf,' so we can continue to work with others. Or we can use wisdom and avoid putting people into situations where their weakness will continue to cause others pain. We can 'forget' and not hold grudges, and our anger can cool, but this is not really forgiveness. Real forgiveness is when someone finally sees the hurt they have caused, acknowledges it, asks to be forgiven...and out of mercy and compassion you forgive. This allows you to fully heal a relationship, otherwise the relationship is still 'on crutches' and will not fully mend.
