The Cone Nebula and Christmas Tree 🎄

Cluster (NGC2264), seemed fitting to post this right before Christmas and the nebula was discovered the day after Christmas in 1785 by William Herschel. This is a star forming hydrogen gas cloud in the constellation of Monoceros about 2700 light years away and the Cone Nebula is 7 light years long. Image credit : Spilios Asimakopoulos
