DON'T BE DEPRESSED THEN: BE USEFUL INSTEAD I found this amusing and am not criticizing it, or the poster (I like the poster) as it makes a valid point. I too have noticed that women generally get far more sympathy than men. I have far more sympathy for women than men. Though unfair that doesn't bother me at all. When I was a kid I learned that becoming tough was infinitely better than getting sympathy. As becoming tough made you ever more strong and able, and then, by becoming strong and able, you no longer needed sympathy. Again, not fair, but still very True. So sometimes nowadays I wonder if modern men, boys, males do not secretly desire to be women so often specifically so they can get sympathy. And/or attention. Or to escape the Work and Effort required to become tough and able. And sometimes everyone needs sympathy, and attention. Man and woman, adult and child. So that’s not my point. My point is reaching the point where you don’t need it. Or, not often. (That also works really good against fear. Knowing you’re tough and able.) So the stronger you become the less you need either and the more useful you become to others. (I know, I know... Modern people say, "What for?" and "What's in that for me?" That's precisely why they are modern people and so fucking afraid and helpless and impotent and unhappy and depressed all of the time.) So, beyond the humor, which is True, by its own measure anyway, I leave you with this Other Truth. To ponder. Become Men again. And you will need little sympathy and little attention. But you will become extremely Useful and Helpful to others and that is far, far from a bad thing. Actually it is the first step to becoming downright Heroic. Then you can give others sympathy and attention. And all kinds of other things too. (Don’t make them dependent on you though, just help em when they need it.) For no one ever says, “Man, they need constant attention and help. I just love being around them.” But people will say, “That’s the toughest sonuvabitch I’ve ever seen, yet if you ever need anything he always comes through. He’s good to know.” Be Good to know. Oh, and don’t be depressed. Be fucking tough instead. Trust me, that beats the living hell outta being depressed. Every... single... time… #man #woman #depression #able #tough
