INFORMATION OBESITY: A mental affliction deriving from overconsumption of "fatty" news and other low-grade information sources, notably resulting in viewpoints and beliefs which do not require rigor. The popularity of fatty news and information has a nature similar to that of fatty foods: the consumer's immediate cravings are assuaged despite the lack of valuable content. This results in further cravings and further binging, creating a Pavlovian cycle which is difficult for the victim to detect and harder to escape.
