Wetlands

American wetlands remain somewhat misunderstood and maligned, but they comprise some of the nation’s most beautiful natural spaces. Over the years, I have nurtured friendships with various amphibious souls in Louisiana—adventurous people adept at fixing unexpected overboard motor snares and navigating around curious alligators and snakes. Zipping down nameless canals shrouded in green, I have marveled at how the state seemed to double in size, with a whole world of waterways and hidden spaces opening up. As land loss continues, it was a great honor to go out with my friends at Gulf Coast Preservation to document their tree planting work. Photo by Hello Kris Davidson
