A minute-by-minute visualization of a global twitterstorm. People don't realize how fleeting #twitter storms can be. In 2019, the President of France tweeted that the amazon was burning, literally, echoing the words of many on the social media platform. We scraped through millions of tweets and found that what underlied this media frenzy was really a quick blip on the social media landscape, going from France to London and around the world in hours, then dying down on social media, while the media continued to cover the events. For any sustainable movement on #climatechange we will have to be realistic in our #goals, honest in our #data, and deliberate in what we do to be responsible. Its not enough to join a hashtag revolution. The real world exists outside of twitter, and that is where actions happen. It makes us wonder: what would twitter look like with different algorithms and #censorship policies?
