Remember God's benefits
Sometimes we think of the good things we have, our family, friends, home, food, clothing and we thank God for these blessings. Wandering through the woods or across the field we may thank him for the birds singing, the sun shining, the grass swaying in the breeze and the sun filtering through the trees. All of these things are God's benefits. We can thank him for the eyes to see these wonders, and the ears to appreciate a beautiful melody or the voices of those we cherish. We can thank him for a mind to understand our world and the creative energy to design, build, and plan for the future. These are all God's benefits. But at this time of year, perhaps the thing we focus on the most is the freedom we have from death. Not that we won't all die physically, but that Christ gave up his life to pay for our transgressions, and we now have hope of eternal life — spiritual life. This great benefit of hope, gives us motivation to live a life worthy of the one who saved us from death. We now have the promise of a resurrection and the hope of the Kingdom of God, because we have been bought and released from slavery. Our Saviour has moved us from the kingdom of darkness that enslaved us, into the freedom that comes from knowing God, his character, his commands, and his charge. Just as the Lord delivered Israel from Egyptian slavery, so too, he delivers everyone who seeks to worship in spirit and truth. What great benefits we have obtained, so let us remember and act in faith to accomplish God's purpose.
