It is amazing to me the petty little things that so many of us get worked up about. And sure, that applies to me as well. I wrote a Christmas-themed article about this once. Perhaps I should Remind it here.

As something of a libertarian, I agree with this. As a writer of fiction, on the other hand, maybe don't. State secrets leave all kinds of room for us to fill in the gaps with rampant speculation.
The existence of such vast classified information justifies many conspiracy theories. It's a totally natural human response, even the crazy ones. If the government actually cared about dangerous conspiracy cults then they'd declassify as much as possible. They don't care. They care about protecting themselves. Freedom of information is the root issue to solve most other issues. We need to stop bickering and unify around it.
