Going back to a discussion on Twitter about how a lot of animated shows from the West fail to gain a good kid audience;
It kind of enforces just how important personality is over character looks in a lot of cases. A character can look fucking muffed as hell but if they're entertaining to watch, people will look past that. It's why I loved the first seasons of Adventure Time so much despite being EXTREMELY simplified in its design. I liked the adventure, weirdness, and violence.
Let's take Steven Universe and Nu-Ra again. Had the writing been consistent, had the story been better and had the characters not been obnoxious turds, it would have something redeeming.
Imagine if Steven weren't a doormat wuss lets a bunch of pussy thirsty aliens mentally abuse him. Imagine if he actually GREW as a fighter while retaining his fun loving side.
Imagine if Glimmer from Nu-Ra weren't a fucking cunt or Bow not a castrated nothing. People wouldn't have minded AS MUCH if Glimmer were stumpy or Bow were Black if they just were more than 'deconstructions' and flips just to do flips and that's it.
tl;dr- their attitudes just suck.
