FebruARTy Day 7: Martyr
While I was walking my dog today, I was listening to music and the Johnny Cash rendition of "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer" came up on the queue. I got to thinking how cool it was that I knew that the song was historically about a black man, but just about anyone could relate to the story, regardless of whether they've actually lived through it. It's kind of a sharp contrast to what you often hear about how apparently some people's experiences are so alien that it's impossible to relate to them or to make them relatable without being them, and therefore nobody who doesn't check every single one of the same Census checkboxes could possibly understand or be qualified to tell those kinds of stories. Good stories are human. I'll just hop off the soapbox now. #FebruARTy #JohnHenry #Silhouette #Art
