Praise the LORD !
People may say in contempt or dismay, "How can I praise God in the midst of my problems?" The reason is simple but yet it alludes one if their focus is not on the LORD. The Psalms are filled with both exclamations of both fear and praise. Yet no matter how often the fears are voiced, they are subsequently followed by praise unto God. This change from voicing fears to praising God is not just because the Psalmist, in humbleness of heart, felt it best to do so out of reverence to the LORD, but because God intervened and calmed his heart and removed those fears and concerns. His trust and faith in God was restored by God. In Psalm 107 , the Psalmist recounts the multiple times that people are in distress and cry out to God and God then removes them from their distresses. But it appears that this help is soon forgotten as none praise the Lord for His goodness . Several times, various examples are described to illustrate the plights of people, God's mercy shown and then the cry of the Psalmist, " Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" The very last verse sums up this Psalm nicely. " Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD." Psalm 107:43. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In my own reflections on how this relates to my own walk with the Lord, I grappled with what I needed to do to honor and praise the Lord. If I merely helped my neighbors and tended after their needs and comforting them, while this is good, if I don't tell them about God's goodness and mercy, then instead of the honor going to God ,it goes to myself. If I merely give someone a tract, while this is good, it lacks the compassion, the evidence of God's goodness and mercy. So again the honor and praise to God is most likely lost. Now if can tell others of God's mercy and compassion through the Psalms, (and I think Psalm 107 is perfect for this) and they can know that their cries unto God will be heard, what better message of salvation and redemption can be warmly welcomed by the broken heart than this. Your follow-up with the person shortly after is the visible confirmation of God's mercy and compassion. The focus of our thoughts, of our actions and our praise needs to be on the Lord God Almighty. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Give Him the glory due. Let the power and strength of His will, His Spirit fill you, till thy cup runneth over, with abundant joy and peace everlasting. Halleluiah and Amen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Again In closing, the last verse of this Psalm sums it up nicely, " Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD."
