Marilyn Manson has responded to allegations of abuse by TV and film actress Evan Rachel Wood, and says the claims are ‘horrible distortions of reality.’ Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, has been dropped by his record label after Wood said that he abused her ‘for years’ during their relationship. ‘The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years,’ she wrote. Wood met Manson when she was 18 and he was 36, and began a relationship with the rock star which lasted from 2007 to their short-lived engagement in 2010. ‘I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission,’ Wood added. Three other women also came forward and posted accusations against Manson of emotional and psychological abuse in the last 10 years. Manson responded to the allegations on social media. ‘Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality,’ he said. ‘My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.’ Since the #MeToo movement went viral in 2017 following allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein, dozens of men in the entertainment industry have been accused of sexual misconduct and emotional abuse.
