"Kind Words" by Trisha Cuffari
Loafers pay with kind words.
They make familiar.
They pull a laugh.
They drop a hint.
And the flattered baker gives them bread.
Then they say "Thank you";
The kind thing to say.
And they leave.
And they eat.
When they're hungry, they come back again.
They greet the baker like an old friend.
They explore new things to say;
New things to compliment.
But kind words won't feed the baker.
