A little about music: This isn’t a topic I’ve written much about, but maybe I should. I’m listening to a band I recently discovered, Circus Maximus from Norway, and they’re mesmerizing! Yes, they remind me more than a little of one of my all time favorites, Dream Theater, but they’ve got their own sound, despite the similarities. Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a kid, and I can’t stress it’s influence on everything on my life enough. When I was 10 or 11 my brother played me some AC/DC, and when I heard the intro to Hells Bells, that was it. I HAD to play guitar. So I took lessons, got fairly proficient and then when I was about 28, got to play drums for the first time. I was hooked! Should have played drums from the start, but better late than never. Anyway, next thing I knew I was in bands, playing gigs and recording. It was all great fun! I rarely play anymore, but I still love music. Occasionally when I’m writing I’ll play something that helps inspire me. Not all the time, cause sometimes I get hooked into a tune and it pulls me out of whatever I’m working on. That’s not good for the productivity! My tastes in music have expanded tremendously since my younger days, and now I listen to all kinds of stuff, where years ago it was just metal. I love instrumentals, classical, some New Age stuff, Jazz and blues, and of course prog rock and metal. Someday I’ll have to write the story of seeing Pantera up close and personal. But that’s a story for another time.
