What I'm about to say isn't glib, it's not an attempt at insult or humor. I mean it plainly.
We are living in a world that is running on Cluster B personality disorder rules. If you are not familiar with these, I strongly suggest becoming so.
The four Cluster B personality disorders are Borderline, Histrionic, Narcissistic, and Anti-social (what you know as 'sociopathy' or 'psychopathy'). They frequently overlap, and there's often no hard and definite line that separates the four. They share characteristics, and can shade into each other.
Feigning victimhood while aggressing against others, preening in public about one's virtuous deeds for self-aggrandizement, lying and then claiming that it's other people who are lying about you, emotionally inflating perceived slights in order to gin up social victimhood currency---all of these are Cluster B.
Many people like to complain that "Oh, people on the Internet are always calling everyone else narcissists---it's all bullshit." No, it isn't. The professional and the lay literature has documented the objective rise in character disorders in the B cluster for years now. It's not just an Internet meme, it's real.
You already know Cluster Bs, even if you think you don't. It's the psychological makeup of abusive parents and spouses, toxic bosses, grandiose virtue signalers who spread "light and love" while rounding up supporters to attack anyone who sees the truth, and more.
Normal-range people are vulnerable to adopting these behaviors, too, in a social economy that rewards them (social media is the best example).
