Got round to framing this picture today. It’s an A3 print I won of a photograph of Deansgate in Manchester taken in December by a guy called Carl Brolan. You can find his work on Instagram [@]carlosbrolan, I’ll try and add a screenshot of his original post in the comments for those who are interested. I think it captures an awful lot of Manchester’s character in one relatively simple shot. #manchester #photography

Moved over to Minds as I’m disgusted with the censorship on Facebook and Twitter. Have always been repelled by it from the conservatives types in the past to the supposed liberal left today. Censorship is rarely the answer and only seems necessary if the debate cannot be won openly or doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.

Spat out my coffee after reading this one. How can they actually try to say this, after labeling every tweet from the current president of the US as misinformation and eventually banning him? They quite literally are removing access to information, restricting free expression and kicking half of the conversation off their platform. Pathetic. #hypocrisy #censorship #bigtech #twitter #freespeech

For those who have recently joined #Minds in the wake of the latest digital #purge, Welcome! Minds is a great place and we're glad to have you here to add your voice. You should also know though that there are other alternate platforms which are not dependent on hosting by Silicon Valley companies. I've tried out a number of them over the past 3 years since I ditched Facebook and here is a list of the ones I consider the best out there for their usability, atmosphere/culture, and stances on free speech. @BitChute is a really great video focused YouTube alternative with an ardent free speech policy. Gab is a totally independent Twitter replacement which previous got un-hosted the way Parler did, but then overcame that and is still going strong. Signal is not social media so much as a personal messaging system, but it offers end-to-end #encryption on direct and group text & voice messages and on direct or group voice & video calls from your smart phone or computer to another fellow users' devices, and allows communication over cell data or internet connections. Last but not least is Telegram, which is like Twitter and Signal had a baby: it offers encryption, broadcast of messages to followers, direct messages to users you are connected with, and group text & voice chats accessible from smart phone or computer. It does not offer video calls, but you can embed videos hosted elsewhere in boardcast messages. Every indication is that 2021 will be even harder and crazier that 2020, so please, start using these platforms and applications to get alternate news sources, and securely connect with friends, family, and likeminded people with whom you can build communities built on trust and helping hands in the times ahead.
