The Blue-Ringed Octopus
Marauding the tide pools and coral reefs of the Pacific and Indian oceans, from Japan to Australia, you will find one of the world's most venomous animals; the Blue Ringed Octopus. With excellent eyesight this nocturnal hunter captures shrimp, fish, and hermit crabs, then paralyses them while they bore into and consume their meal with sharp beaks. Despite its relatively small size, their blue ringed octopus comes packed with enough poison to kill twenty-six, full-grown humans. Their bites are usually small and painless, and people often do not know they have been poisoned up until the toxins take effect. To date, there is no known antitoxin to the Blue Ringed octopus' venom. ............................................................................... #science #earth #nature #animals #education
