I think the problem is that people don't want to accept that the rule of law is dead in America and that there really are evil people willing to sacrifice lives and the economy in exchange for power and money. Reality is so uncomfortable that they hide their heads in the sand. Of course this behavior puts them in more danger than if they had accept reality.
