Frans Snyders Fable of the Fox and the Heron, 1657 Story from Æsop: The moral is "Do not play tricks on your neighbors unless you can stand the same treatment yourself." The Fox tricked the stork by inviting the bird to a dinner of soup in a shallow pan. The stork, of course, could not drink from such a shallow container, but instead of getting angry the stork got even. Inviting the fox to dinner, the stork prepared a fish but place the fish in a deep glass container. The fox could only watch as the stork ate. When the fox complained, the stork replied with the above quote. Both must be courteous to the abilities of the other to be good neighbors. #fable: http://read.gov/aesop/016.html #art #painting
