This morning I was thinking about ACB's hearings and listening to Crowder's videos about this.
One of the people discussing, wanted the SCOTUS to be more "representative" of the people and the times.
This got me to think about source of power. The US government derives its authority from the Constitution. A friend thinks we should go back to Feudalism, for the kings derived their authority from God.
In the Catholic faith, Priest's derive their authority from Jesus via John 20:21-23. Under the Protestant Faith, they abolished the priesthood and took the authority for themselves.
In essence, the US Government is a Protestant view. In the US, many conservatives believe in "big R" Rights granted by God. Instead of a central earthbound authority granting us rights, we claim these Rights for ourselves and protect them with the US Constitution. The rest of the world has it that the Government grant's people their rights. In the Common Wealth Nations, their governments authority is granted the Queen who was granted the authority by God. Most 3rd world nation take the authority with violence, as do Marxists nations.
Just a thought...
