NGC 604 is an interstellar cloud of partially ionized gas, spanning an incredible 1,520 light years across, lying within the Triangulum galaxy. NGC 604 is ~40 times larger, and is over 6,300 times more luminous, than the well known Orion Nebula. This chaotic nebula scintillates with thousands of stars, some in their youth and some closing in on their stellar life. As some of these stars nova, they can trigger not only other stars into nova, but spark stellar births as well.
