In the background of this spectacular image you can see the central band of the Milky Way, and the 2 colorful areas to the left are the Large and Small Magellanic clouds (2 smaller satellite galaxies). The foreground depicts a forest of quiver trees in southern Namibia. These trees are actually succulent aloe plans that can grow up to quite large proportions, as you can see. Traditionally, these 'quiver trees' were used by he indigenous San people, to fashion quivers for their arrows.
