This young Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) is experiencing its very first day out of the nest. In this image one of its parents brings morsels of food to feed the hungry fledgling. It seems that no other siblings survived. Life is tough for birds. This youngster's first flight was pretty well-executed and its skills grew rapidly as the morning progressed. The parents worked diligently to feed and protect it. This photo was taken yesterday, and today I can hear the little bird calling for food in a nearby Eucalyptus tree. Best wishes, little one.
