Pangolin Tongue: Pangolins are nocturnal creatures, and their diet consists of mainly ants and termites, which they capture using their long tongues. The root of the tongue is not attached to the hyoid bone, but rather lies in the thorax between the sternum and the trachea. Large pangolins can extend their tongues up to 16 in (40 cm), but only has a diameter of 0.20 in (0.5 cm). Pangolins are somewhat particular and tend to consume only one or two species of insects, even when many species are available to them.
