THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A ROUND BABY CRIBS

Size

The first thing you need to do when you start shopping for a round baby crib is determining the size. You can find round cribs in almost any size imaginable, so you need to have a good idea of the size need before you start looking. The best way to do this is to visualize.

Go into space where you plan on putting the new crib, and bring a tape measure. Visualize where you want to place the crib, changing table, dresser, and any other furniture you plan on getting for the nursery. If you want, you can use masking tape to mark on the floor where each piece of furniture is going to go.

Next, take some careful measurements. Figure out the diameter of the crib you need, and measure how high you’d like the resting surface to be off the ground. Many round cribs come with a canopy, so make sure that any light fixtures or ceiling fans won’t interfere with your new crib.

Once you’ve determined the size and height that will work for you, you can start the process of shopping for a round baby cribs.

BEDDING

Does your new round crib include bedding?

……. When shopping for a round crib, some come with bedding while others don’t. It’s usually nice to receive at least one set of bedding with your crib so you can be sure that your sheets will properly fit and you can use it right away.

When you select a crib that includes bedding, carefully examine the materials that the bedding is made out of. Most bedding is made from a blend of polyester and cotton, which is best for softness and durability.

I recommend combinations that are larger percentages of cotton because it’s a natural fiber and it’s beautiful and soft. Shopping for extra bedding for your round crib can be challenging, with many sizes and styles available, so it’s nice to start out with one set that you know will work correctly. Look for a round crib that includes one set of bedding.

MATTRESS

Another thing to look for when you buy a new round baby crib is whether or not it comes with a mattress or mattress pad. It’s much less time consuming to buy a crib that comes with a mattress that fits properly rather than hunting around on the internet trying to find one. Round cribs don’t come in any standard sizes, so finding items like this can be a bit of a challenge. It may cost a little more, but you’ll save a fortune in time and money by picking out a round baby crib that comes with its own perfectly fitting mattress.

MATERIALS

To determine the quality of any product, especially furniture, you need to look at what it’s made out of. Quality materials make quality furniture, and your new crib is no different. Buying a high-quality crib is a purchase that can last you for several children, and even for your grandchildren in the future. You need to make sure that your new crib is made from quality materials that are strong and safe for the baby.

Most cribs are primarily made from wood, which has been used as a building material for thousands of years. Some woods are better than others, but generally speaking, they all perform rather well. When dealing with wood construction, try to make sure that the finished used conforms to safety standards. Different stains and paints can contain hazardous materials, which you don’t want your baby chewing on or eating.

Other round cribs are made from metal, which is an even more durable material than wood. Metal cribs will outlast and outperform their wood counterparts, but they tend to be much more expensive as well. When considering a metal crib, the same issues apply when it comes to the finish. Make sure the paint is safe for your child.

TOYS OR ACCESSORIES

These are what I like to refer to as the extras. Some cribs just come with those little goodies that make them a better value overall. Look for a round crib that comes with the mattress, bedding, and other cool features like storage shelves, a canopy, a bumper, dust ruffle, or toys that your baby can play with. It’s nice to buy a crib that has a canopy over the top and a colorful mobile that will entertain your child for hours on end.

OVERALL SAFETY

When it comes to the safety of our children, we can never have enough. Cribs are a place that should be safe and secure for our babies, and free from worry. When it comes to crib safety, there are three main items parents should be concerned with.

First, I have already mentioned this but it’s primary concern for many of us parents, you should look at all of the materials used to make the crib, mattress, canopy, any accessories, and the bedding. Make sure that no hazardous chemicals have been used to make any of the items in your baby’s new crib. I know it sounds crazy, but unsafe products are sold every day to unsuspecting parents who think that these items are safe for their child. Do your homework and make sure you are not placing your child in a toxic environment.

Second, parents need to consider the issue of fire. In the unfortunate event of a fire in your home, you want your baby’s bedding to be fire resistant to give you and emergency workers the most time to rescue your baby.

Fortunately, cotton is one of the most fire resistant fabrics in the world, so look for bedding that’s made from it, not some polyester blend that’s treated with fire resistant chemicals, another potential poison.

Lastly, parents need to consider the dangers of their child smothering in their crib. This is one of the benefits of choosing a round crib because there are no corners for your child to get their head wedged in, which increases the danger of suffocation. Make sure there are no gaps between your crib side rails and mattress where you baby can get stuck, and always use a good quality bumper as well.

Many manufacturers use certifications from safety organizations who test their products for safety. Look for ASTM or CPSC certifications to prove the safety of your new crib.
