American Dystopia

I have seen America’s future and it is not pretty. What awaits us became clear to me this July fourth holiday. The implications of the Colin Kaepernick/Nike/Betsy Ross/Flag controversy was all the crystal ball I needed.

Colin Kaepernick, a former footballer, who is now a political provocateur, objected to the Betsy Ross flag being placed on Nike shoes because that flag flew over America during the days of slavery. Since slavery to modern Americans is considered an absolute evil, and a crime against humanity, to many progressives the flag must go.

I pointed out to a progressive friend that slavery was part of the whole history of civilization. Every civilization, every one of them, from the dawn of time, until the rise of industrial capitalism, practiced slavery. That didn’t matter to my friend. The fact that this absolute crime against humanity was so pervasive increased its heinous character.

Think of the implications. The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were written in an America where slavery was legal. Our national heroes such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson owned slaves. Our civilization was created by people who did not recognize the absolute evil of slavery. The Bible was written by people who did not see the absolute evil of slavery. Christianity arose and became dominant during a time when slavery was not recognized as an absolute evil.

If American’s are not to be permitted to celebrate our national symbols, founding documents and our Founding Fathers without being subject to being tarred as racists then America is effectively over as nation. What unites us as a people? We are not bound by blood since we are a racially diverse nation. We are not bound by a common religion since we are a pluralistic society. What united us was a shared reverence for our founding myths and national symbols.

The progressives have destroyed all of this with their self-righteous judgmental hatred of everything connected with slavery. Without reverence for these national symbols, documents and founding fathers the only thing that can unite us as a people is fear of violence. Fear of the Government’s guns and tanks and the ability of the Government to coerce against our will. It is clear now why gun control is so important to the progressive. Since fear of the Government is the only thing left to unite people, and gun ownership mitigates fear of the Government, gun ownership threatens national unity.

This will not end well. I can’t see this leading to anything but to a spiral of violence and government repression. A people who do not love their country can only be controlled by repressive violence. This is the future that awaits us as a nation. America was a great country, and we were a free people. But progressives by being so adamant in their condemnation of slavery will ironically create a future where we are virtual slaves of an all-powerful government. My heart breaks because so many young people have succumbed to the toxic ideology of ‘woke’ progressivism. They are creating a hellish American future for themselves and their children.
