โAnd this I believe: that the free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any idea, religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual. This is what I am and what I am about.โ

The Start
Young as I was when I started drawing and painting I started my professional art career at age 35 after ending a succesful carreer as a business lawyer. I kept on handling my brushes and pencils after childhood but never dreamed I could make a living out of art.
The internet offered me an online showcase through my own website and many affiliate websites focusing on displaying and selling art, such as Singulart, Saatchiart and Artfinder. Since then my work can be seen in many countries all over the world.
My Way โ The Art Statement
I employ a variety of styles that all have one thing in common: the ever search for the light on phenomena and all the shadows and light planes they block in. My favorites in doing so are oil paint, dry pastel and graphite pencil.
It is not the form or the theme that counts but the way planes of certain tonal quality vary and block in the lights. I combine figurative work with the search for abstraction. I think neither of them individually can provide the desired art statement the public expects from an artist.
Besides all that, exaggeration and deviation is the standard and results in a typical use of a balanced colour scheme and a hugh tonal bandwith, in order to create art that, when the canvas or paper would be torn into pieces, in essence still would be recognizable.
Roundism
A specific style is what I call โroundismโ and is my personal version of traditional cubism practised by Pablo Picasso and George Braque. Big rivers gain contribution from many side streams and so these cubist giant inspirators were followed by people like Tamara de Lempicka with her conal shaped figures and her sharp tonal cadences.
Even impressionists like Claude Monet for his love of the light and jack-of-all-trades Leo Gestel, merging all sorts of styles into his own styled figurations. I could go forever mentioning all inspirators.
The result is a combination of styled cubist figuration with attention to a sound atmospheric depth and feel for composition, anatomy and tonal rhythym. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or remarks on this style. I will be happy to discuss them with you.
Developing Story
From the start of my website I could display my body of work online and put every art work I made online with a story of what it represents.
I like writing these art statements so the viewer can understand what the art work is about and follow my progession in creating art.
Further Art Statements
In my teenage years I read Johannes Ittenโs studies of forms and color. It is from them I learned to understand and see in art one could search for balance in variation and repetition. I strecht this a little bit further. I state that there is variation in repetition and repetition in variation. Every variation on repetition can, if quantified, lead to its own repetition. So the two elements start dancing around eachother like dervishes. I discovered this counts for tonal rhythyms, color relations, saturational balances and compository elements. In life and far beyond this principle is needed to spawn something in the first place.
