Freedom Gardening and Foraging

RIP to the original Freedom Gardening Group, may this new start bring just as many useful posts on self sufficiency, gardening tips, and lively discussions. All gardening, homesteading, foraging, and related self sufficient content is welcome (canning, soap making, herbalism, etc...)
Type: Allā–¾

Starting work on a new coop (on the right, left is just temporary box to keep them protected at night during transition) on slope with budget of $0. Lucky I have lots of random materials lying around. Bit further along now . The coop will extend out further in the front.

3 little lambs fresh off the burner! They're a bit dirty, it was a rainy and muddy entry but they all seem to be doing OK thus far. All thanks to God.

Time to Up Pot

Or pot up, whichever you prefer. I started the process yesterday, got through my peppers and okra. As you can see, I haven't done my tomatoes yet. Got a little tomato forest going on over here (I thought some the seeds might not have great germination rates, as I saved several myself and they are a couple years old... I was wrong, very, very wrong). And yes, my seedlings are a little leggy, but not bad. Anyway, need to get more soil and make more space before I start in on the rest.

Honeydew Melon Going to have to move these guys to a different shelf soon. We will be starting some more trays soon. Not 100% what yet though. And we got some neem oil to help in our aphid battle.

Ā·

Was hoping to identify this little fella. Found two of these growing in the semi-shade along one of my fences. Can one of you please tell me what they are? Thank you. . .

More Weird Plants!

For those who know my gardening habits, you know I like my weird plants. I especially like unusual edibles when they are perennial edibles. Well just got these offshoots in the mail today and I'll likely be braving the dreary weather to get them in the ground. Introducing...See more

Seedlings

Yes, I am absolutely the kind of gardener to sow seeds and then promptly forget what it is I put in the garden. In this case, in the foreground is radishes, and there is definitely spinach coming up, and I think the other one is arugula. Not pictured, but I'm pretty sure that some of the bread poppies I sowed are coming up too. I've also got some kale that made it through the winter, and a couple of kale plants out in the cold frame. The one is big enough now I may need to transfer it soon, but I'll likely try to wait until April for that.

So Excited

Anyone know what these are? I planted them last year and had no clue if they would come back, but look at the little ramps! I'm thrilled!

Wild Peppers

The little peppers on the right hand side are a wild variety. I planted another wild variety this year too but they haven't sprouted yet. I moved those around so they will be in a warmer spot, so hopefully those will come up soon. Overall, most of my starts have been coming up well. One of the fancy pepper varieties are a bust, and my jalapeƱos didn't come up. Celeriac also didn't sprout, but I'm fine with that. Overall, I have way more peppers and tomatoes than I need and my okra and other nightshades are getting huge.

The Complete Homesteading Book Found an old homesteading book at my local library. Thought I would share a few pages.
