Shell Oil medallion

1975? Starting in the 1960s, customers who filled their vehicle up with gasoline at a Shell Oil station in Canada would receive a free promotional medallion like this one. These medallions came in various themed series - to collect them all, you would need to keep going back to Shell Oil stations. The Prime Minister series were made out of zinc plated with a thin layer of brass. But, almost always, the brass layer is found missing, leaving nothing but zinc. According to: en.numista.com

In honor of the Cariboo gold rush and the establishment of British Columbia as a British Crown Colony, a special reverse was used on the 1958 Canadian Silver Dollar. It was designed by Stephan Trenka. His design soon turned in a public relations disaster for the Canadian government. Because the totem pole chosen used an element which signified death to the local natives, the 1958 Canadian dollar proved unpopular with the Coastal Indians.
