The military is government, sir, and I worked for the government once. It is a sin to be repented, not a highlight on one's list of accomplishments. This is just Libertarianism 101.
The world will never be rid of statists. Libertarian-Anarchy is fated to live on the margins. Think of states as polygons of various size, and a libertarian's place is existing on a tangent line to one or more of them. More is better. Work on your options. Touching any state at no more than one point is the best you can hope for. This requires a lifestyle of mobility, which, as I always say is the key to libertarianism, and what every edict of the state aims to restrict. Resist. Get in motion. To where? Anywhere. The place matters less than the movement itself.
