I remember asking to borrow Mappy-Land for 5 dollars from a kid in 4th grade. Didn't seem like a big deal, I wanted the game for a month and I offered to give him some for money it.
Our parents caught the transaction happening at a baseball game and they didn't approve. Both of our mothers thought that it was in poor taste and that he should lend me the game without pay. Neither him or I saw a problem with exchanging the game for money. In fact, afterwards I felt guilty because I had an extra game while he didn't gain anything. I offered him a game in return but he seemed uninterested. This was at the time I couldn't actually find the game for rent anymore. Everyone had moved onto the Super Nintendo or Genesis and NES games were getting harder to find.
Mappy-Land was great. I still enjoy it today. In fact, I just recently learned about how to access the hidden bonus level after all these years.
So listen to the NES MEGAMIX and tell me: Why is was it wrong to offer the guy money in exchange for borrowing his game?
