It's weird, attempting to participate in a DAO
It's messy
There is a lot of back and forth
People are new. All trying to know who's who
Many conversations all happening at the same time
Different working groups/teams
All reporting bugs and improvements
It can be active some days and hard to keep up
But it's also thrilling
All happening in real time with people from all over the world trying to solve these blockchain problems
All trying to get along and develop something great for everyone
With all the difficulty that it brings as we improve our communication with one another
Groups of people, willingly, begin to cooperate in some different way
Everyone learning and working.
Seeing the thing take form, noticing the development as the teams sort themselves out and everyone carves a little space for themselves within the different groups. Building.
Sometimes things can get intense too. Something breaks, a major bug, and everyone is trying to fix it. Others just have to wait while the things get fixed and can't help.
Sometimes, it's just regular group dynamics drama, always within boundaries so far, and it returns to respectful dialogue.
And of course there are also very interesting, inspiring, along with technical discussions.
There is voting, work bounties, council cycles and founding members.
Blockchains, testnets, bots, validators and nodes.
New people arriving and learning of the project every day
What I take away is the cultural moment. And how we are the ones that are kind of mapping out the thing. It's strange and hilarious. No one around me understands anything I say. They've just heard of Bitcoin or NFTs but are unable to see the crazy shift about to emerge in the way we relate to each other. How we interact and transact with one another. Even the "jobs" we have. All shifting in front of our eyes. I'm living it currently on JoystreamDAO. And I'm having a great time. Surrounded by very welcoming and helpful individuals that I've never met, building apps like Atlas, a video streaming service on a blockchain and Pioneer, a DAO Governance tool
Where else will I get to participate and build during these times?
