Bleu

Based on the illustration " Blue Jay and His Lollipop " by J.M Black

On a regular sunny but chilly day Bleu walks down his usual path home.

Suddenly he stops and stares at his own shadow on the floor. He then goes into his bag and takes out a lollipop and unwraps it.

Enters thinking monologue

Bleu:"My shadow, no different from me, unseen, dark, unnoticed, quiet, flat, dragging through the ground and stepped on by others. Those damn bullies"

Enters thinking monologue

Bleu:"Why am I so bitter? why can't I be sweet like this lollipop? It's not my fault I can't sing, it's not my fault I am mute, is there no other beauty in me that others can relate to?"

(Lick 3)

Enters thinking monologue

Bleu:"I dream of leaving my own nest. I dream of a place where outcasts are welcome and loved, where one can be different yet appreciated, I'm so alone"

Enters thinking monologue

Bleu: "I hope those bullies don't take my bag today, I have my drawings of the the places I dream about in there, I don't want to loose those. "

(Lick 5)

Enters thinking monologue

Bleu: "I wish there was a sign that something might change, a sign of hope, that things will get better..."

As Bleu finishes his sentence he notices another shadow cross his own and looks up to find a very nerdy but beautiful looking lady bird wearing something around her beak, lucky for her she was still able to speak

Elena: "Hi. You're Bleu, right?"

Bleu 's eyes are super wide and drools a little stunned by her beauty

Blue: (silence)

Elena: "I'm Elena".

Blue still stunned as Elena smiles at him

Elena: "It's OK. I know you're mute. I understand. I can speak but can't sing, I have a deviation on my beak that does not allow me to sing. But that's OK, I dance instead and it's wonderful.

What do you do instead of singing? do you have something to pass the time, something that gives you meaning?"

Bleu takes a second to process what she is saying to him, then hands her the lollipop, goes into his bag and takes out some of his drawings

Elena: "Wow, Bleu, these are wonderful... You're really good!"

Bleu smiles and his heart fills with love

Elena gives him back the lollipop

Elena: "Are you going this way?"

Bleu nods yes

Elena: "I'll walk with you."

Elena smiles again. Bleu smiles back.

They proceed to walk down the path together.

As they walk away the conversation slowly fades out

Elena: "You're sweet. Can I have the worm at the center of the lollipop?"

Bleu hands her over the lollipop

Elena: "So... How do you communicate...?"

Continue walking away as it fades to black
