For when You're Over-Extended and Overwhelmed
During these times of our lives we quickly lose ourselves along with our clarity of mind. The more on our minds, the greater the overwhelm, the harder we try, the more we feel defeated.
First thing in the morning write a short list of what's actually needed. Title this list "Just For Today." This will include some basic self care that has, by now, slipped away (exercise/eating right, etc.). Keep the list simple, short, and manageable.
By focusing on today you can let go of the worries and concerns of tomorrow and the burden of yesterday's regrets as well as everything else that you have no control over. You will immediately become more effective at what is in the present. Strength and clarity will return as you're no longer losing power like a boat with many leaks.
I learned this simple practice many years ago when I was a single parent. I felt hopeless and that life was impossible. By focusing on what I had control over and what was immediately important I began to feel sane and empowered. Slowly I was able to expand my vision but I'll never forget how healing it was to focus on the present day.
By having one great day that was appropriate you can go to bed content and your mind can rest. You can trust that by being more effective and present today that tomorrow is handled as best as possible.
A great life is just a series of great days.
