Censorship done right
With governments screaming about saving children from the evils of the internet, acting like puritanical parents intent on censorship of everything that offends them: perhaps it is time to make the whole internet 18+?
A simple solution to the issue of protecting children and delicate teens.
Anyone under 18 would have their content white-listed by their parents, and then we can assume anyone we encounter while roaming the internet is 18+ or has been given permission by their parents to be on a standard 18+ website.
Freedom of speech, and the right to hear what others have to say, would be totally uncensored, and it would be our duty to argue back against the nutters.
Websites aimed at children, such as education or children's programs, would display their age ranking and segregate the little darlings into their own safe-space that is heavily moderated. The government could go nuts and do the parent's jobs for them, and bring down the ban hammer on everything while leaving adults alone.
I'm sure ISPs can handle white-lists on accounts and per device, and mobile operators could do likewise with built-in under 18 protections (though I imagine China would turn that on for everyone, and the tech companies would let them!).
