Fake News: I Love It When People Try To Shoot Me Down (coz I'm a better shot)

A few days ago I posted a comment in the thread under an article on the anti - Russian propaganda and scaremongering being whipped up by governments and mainstream media. There was the Skripal case in Britain, a former spy who had worked for both Russian and British intelligence was poisoned in a quiet country town to which he had retired. Poisoned along with him, though not suspected of being involved in any way with spying was his daughter Yulia, something of a hottie a few years ago which guaranteed plenty of front page coverage in the tabloids.

Politicians and the press were quick to blame Vladimir Putin and tensions between the west and Russia were escalated, but the incident took place over a month ago  and no evidence has yet been offered linking the Russian government with the crime.

And then there was the alleged gas attack carried out, according to politicians and the media, by the regime of Syrian President Bashar al Assad on his own people. In spite of there being no evidence to support the allegations, which were based on information from sources linked to Al Qaeda and ISIS, the media went into full with hunt mode.

A preliminary statement from UN inspectors sent to investigate the alleged war crime reported no evidence of a gas attack could be found and furthermore no evidence could be found suggesting that sites targeted by US /NATO punitive missile strickes on Asad's chemical weapons manufacturing facilities had in fact been occupied by chemical weapons manufacturing facilities.

With all this going on in the background the excellent independent journalist Caitlin Johnson published an article titled Any Discussion Of Russian Disinformation Is Invalid Unless It Addresses Iraq Lies.

I left a comment on the article, not of any great depth, but simply to help give it visibility (Caitlin doen't need me to tell her she's a good writer. I said:

Ian Thorpe: The anti Russian propaganda has now reached such an intense pitch we can assume the west’s liberal democracies are on the brink of social and economic collapse for there to be such great efforts to distract our attention from these issues.

Today I had a reply from someone whose name I was not familiar with.

Michael Avenatti: “After significant investigation, we have discovered that Mr. Trump’s atty Mr. Cohen received approximately $500,000 in the mos. after the election from a company controlled by a Russian Oligarc with close ties to Mr. Putin. These monies may have reimbursed the $130k payment.”

A quck bit of reasearch revealed some interesting information about Mr. Avenatti so I replied:

How about full disclosure Michael: You are the lawyer acting for Stephanie Clifford (aka Stormy Daniels, the porn actress who claims she was paid hush money to keep quiet about an affair with Trump,) and you allege that a company with links to a Russian oligarch (note spelling) made payments to Michael Cohen, but offer no evidence that such payments were in any way illicit.

In fact your allegations are considered so ludicrous that The Guardian, a UK left wing newspaper and certainly no friend of the Trump administration, ran a piece on the story exposing that your claim had no substance. BTW Many respectable companies, both European and American, have links to Russian businessmen.

We can only hope you were not acting for Stormy during the sex scenes in her movies.

I look forward to Mr. Avenatti's next legalistic sally.
