Kingdom Come: Deliverance

@SlytherinGamer got Kingdom Come: Deliverance on the PS4 as a birthday present, and she has now been playing it for a couple of weeks. I watched along through her initial frustrations with the game's learning curve and bugs. I think she has now restarted the game for a third time.

The bug that was most frustrating for her was in Talmberg. The gate would not open so she could leave the city. She had completed all the quest requirements and spoke to the guard at the gate, but the gate stayed closed. She tried restarting the game, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but she had the same issue that the gate would not open. She ended up starting a new game and did not experience the problem on her 2nd play through.

I have now started my own game, and so far, fingers crossed, I have only experienced a few minor glitches, such as my character falling through the ground, but he quickly reappeared back on solid ground without me having to restart.

Kingdom Come's fighting controls also take some getting used to. On the PS4 you first have to indicate the direction of your strike with the right analog stick then you choose light attack or strong attack with R1 and R2 respectively. While fighting you also have to keep an eye on your stamina. If you go willy-nilly swinging you will run out of stamina quickly and can screw yourself. You have to pace yourself in Kingdom Come's fights.

I also learned the hard way, typical for me, that you can attack traders. I went up to a trader in an early quest and accidentally pressed the R2 trigger. The trader swore at me and the guard came up and I had the choice of trying to flee, pay a fine, or go to jail. I didn't have the coin so I chose the option of jail time, thinking of Elder Scrolls, that I would serve my time and be released. This is not the case in Kingdom come. After they arrested me, the game proceeded to a cut-scene of me in my cell, and I could hear an army attacking the city. It then went to a shot of smoke and fire beginning to consume the jail, and I got the dreaded Game Over screen.

In Kingdom Come you will also have to be more strategic on saving your game. There is an auto-save after major events in the game. However, if you want to save your game right before you attempt to pick a lock, you will have to use a savior schnapps, a drink within the game that you can get from quests or by crafting them.

With all of the negative points I have brought up, one may think that I do not like Kingdom Come. That is not the case. So far I am really enjoying the game. The open world, realistic medieval villages and castles, and the multiple paths to complete quests (via combat, stealth, dialog), are the most appealing points to Kingdom Come.

I would not recommend Kingdom Come to those that crave action. There is action in it, but action/combat is not necessarily the primary focus of this game. If would recommend this game to lovers of open worlds and to those who love the medieval time period. I have not seen a game with more realistic historical settings than Kingdom Come.
