Do you ever catch yourself studying a calm, positive person that’s considered to be an overachiever and who makes everything seem easy and simple, almost effortless? It’s only natural that you feel a sting of envy – every aspiring person in the world who would like to be successful and lead a good life does.

Well, every journey to inner peace is a rocky one. Every person that you perceive as fortunate for being able to achieve everything they want in life actually came a long way, so you should give them some credit.

However, the good news is that you can do the same. True serenity that radiates from a genuinely happy being is a result of self-awareness. Here is how knowing yourself deeply will enable you to have a better life.

Emotional Intelligence is Based on Self-Awareness

As you’re probably familiar with, emotional intelligence is just one of the aspects of human intelligence. You need each of the puzzle pieces so that you can put together a complete picture.

However, the truth is that developed emotional intelligence enables a person to achieve clarity and tranquility. For you to be at peace with yourself, you must pay attention to the following four aspects of emotional intelligence:

● self-awareness

● self-management

● social awareness

● relationship-management

For your work to be actually bear fruit, and so that you can apply your emotional intelligence to the world around you through social awareness and relationship management, you first need to dig deep and become self-aware.

Listen to the Sounds Coming from Beneath the Surface

If you want to actually reach significant depths, you need to listen to the sounds coming from your inner being.

The reason why most people would do anything to get away from these thoughts and emotions is quite simple; they disapprove of them. If you often feel like you're disappointed, scared, or ashamed of some of your thoughts and emotions, you should know that you are not alone – most people feel the same.

However, in order to achieve self-awareness, you need to stop smothering those voices.

Understand Where Your Emotions Are Coming From

The next step you need to take is all about understanding. You shouldn’t and mustn’t invest your efforts into running away from yourself, which is exactly what you’re doing by denying your inner-self.

The second thing you must remember during this process is that you shouldn’t be afraid of the conflict. Having two battling emotions that are completely opposite in their nature isn’t unhealthy or unnatural. However, you need to allow that battle to occur in order to find out what you actually feel.

Self-awareness comes from understanding your own emotions, knowing what caused them and where they are coming from. If you manage to resolve your inner dilemmas, you’ll be able to discover your true self.

Inner Peace Leads to Social Awareness

Once you finally get a grasp of your inner self, dig out all those buried emotions that never had a chance to ripen, and determine their cause once and for all, you will stop running from silence.

This is something that’s quite visible within a person – it’s almost like truly peaceful people have a calming bubble surrounding them. It all starts with you devoting some time to a bit of introspection and effective self-care, so that you can reign in your emotions and get in touch with your body.

Once you’re able to handle and manage yourself, it will be much simpler and easier for you to function with other people.

Knowing Yourself Will Enable You to Achieve Your Goals

Which brings me to our next point – knowing your own strengths and weaknesses, that are an integral part of every human being, is a great base for developing life strategies. You’ll be able to set realistic goals which are in accordance with your skills.

However, you need to start with baby steps. For starters, you should get familiar with breathing exercises; they can help you on your quest to self-awareness and assist you in preserving a calm spirit. Activities like painting and knitting can be quite useful as well; mechanical activities that allow your mind to wonder are an effective way to get in touch with your inner self.

Just remember – true serenity can’t happen overnight. You need to work for it consciously, be disciplined and stay persistent. Only with hard work will you be able to achieve powerful self-awareness that can take you to amazing places.
