A massive monetary fund was set up to prevent vaccine injury claims from seeing the light of day by going to trial:
The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 (PDF - 118 KB), as amended*, created the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), a no-fault alternative to the traditional tort system. It provides compensation to people found to be injured by certain vaccines. Even in cases in which such a finding is not made, petitioners may receive compensation through a settlement.
Current Fund Size: $ 83,986,592.67 (September, 2017)
Total compensation paid over the life of the program is approximately $3.8 billion.
