Why Think a Thought

I see shadows stretching through time,
Cast by giants who'll never know me.
It's hard to cope with history's tyrant.
I'm stuck climbing a tall tree.
Even swinging in its branches,
I hardly have the advantage if I can't see
Passed the bubble cast by those
Who stood out from the masses.

And suddenly there's no space
From Socrates and the endless faces of the human race.
I can't breathe, I need to see
An original Idea, locked up in a beautiful mind.
What action can I do that hasn't been designed
And perfected by another.
I barely see passed creations birthed by someone else
to only find space predefined by earlier minds.
Reality flops, then drops:
Compressing into a spot that gets ever smaller.
To the void I form my first good idea,

Why think a thought,
If it's already been thought
But greater?

The ticker tape stops, blocked on what ought to be answerable.
I'm in the animus, no longer alone.
I see through this matrix
At something so easily missed.
I wonder what the others thought
When they got to this moment?

And then the flood gates opened,
The tears crashing forth,
"Yes I bet we all cried."
As I curled in stale blankets
And stared at the sky.
In an instant reality's morphed.

The tickers still caught,
Only dropping the occasional thought.
The world has never been so beautiful
And I am new to the feeling of simply being;
Of knowing exactly where I belong and feeling the pull
Of every expression of myself
That I have ever been,
In every stage of human being,
And every age we've framed

My reincarnation's complete
As another cog clinks into place
And tears again stream down my face.
Back in the blankets, I had only just begun to rise.
In the void I looked left that right,
Before my eyes lie every iteration
Of my particular human persuasion
From the final cold to the dawn of creation.
Every action I've ever taken.
Up 'till now did they also feel forsaken?

I look up then down, I'm surrounded.
I've never been unique,
There's two of every snowflake.
With every thought reality quakes.
I've got it now and I smile at all my doubles.
I already had what I came to seek.
Nothing changes, and everything does.
My knees are weak.

I'm picking through the mental rubble.
I've got a new searchlight,
The collected insights,
Of we who peeled back the night.
And looked under her veil
To have our egos pale against her truth.

I used to think I was alone.
A single sail on an ocean home.
But in a moment of clarity,
I accidentally thought a thought.

Why think a thought,
If it's already been thought
But greater.

And I broke.
Something inside me woke
An awareness of my past lives.
My personality crumbled in a last dive.
We watched with love as tears rinsed
Confusion from our heart.
It's a start.
And we've been smiling ever since.
