A review of a tool more commonly known as a "stud finder."

Prior to owning this tool, I would blindly tap on the wall to find a stud. It didn't really matter whether I found it or not since I was hanging light framed photos or paintings.

Not so when I received the wooden "Welcome Home" flag from Flags of Valor. This wooden flag is quite heavy. It sat on the floor of my study until we could decide where to hang it. We finally found the appropriate place to hang it where it can be seen as soon as you enter the house.

The next step was to find a stud in the wall to support it. It was time to get a stud finder. I did my research on the Internet and read a lot of product descriptions and reviews.

I settled on the brand (ZIRCON) and the model (HD900c). I went to the local Home Depot and I could not find their supposedly one remaining HD900c. I settled for the HD900 which is actually $10 cheaper. The HD900 sells for $50 and requires one 9V battery.

I tested it and tried it at different heights on the wall to confirm that it actually found a stud in the middle of the wall. It did. I also like that it warns you of nearby live wires and pipes.

I can't wait to use it again. One can't have enough tools whether one needs it only once. I just hope my son doesn't borrow it because I never see any tool he borrows returned.

BTW, this tool is for right-handers. My son is a lefty so that will be my excuse for not loaning it to him.
