Tonight's episode of Supergirl, called Midvale (S03E06), has been the best of the season so far. It may have something to do with the lack of Melissa Benoist and the integration of Smallville to the ArrowVerse. The episode feels like the early episodes of Smallville, with young Kara solving a mystery when her friend Kenny is murdered in the woods. Kara even consults Clark's friend Chloe Sullivan, a character that the CW created specifically for Smallville. The episode is a refreshing departure from the overwhelming PC and anti-conservative rhetoric that normally accompanies the series. There are, however several cringe-worthy moments, mainly the supposed 'drug trafficking' from across the Canadian border. The episode transitions really well during the last scene with a 10-year time lapse back to the present to show the Danvers' room looks exactly the same with the older Kara and Alex waking up from their night's sleep. The ending of the episode, however, brings a cringy reminder that Alex is gay, like every single episode reminds us every 5 minutes and that Kara/Supergirl is a whiny baby who can't get over losing her boyfriend Monel after 6 months. Overall, however, I would rate this episode a 8/10.
